We love Peace River.

We love Triathlon.

Our mission is to bring our two loves together again. After a 5 year hiatus we are bringing multisport back to the Peace Region!

Join us in August, 2026 to breathe life back into the Peace River TriRiver Triathlon.

Race formats will include Sprint, Team Sprint, Try-a-Tri and Kids of Steel.

We are friendly in the Peace Region! Families and beginners are welcome!

About Triathlon

Triathlon was developed in the 1970s and became an olympic sport in 2000.

Triathlon consists of 3 sports - swim, bike and run- performed in a continuous effort at various distances.

On the shorter end are friendly community 'tri-a-trys' and sprint triathlons.

Standard distance is featured in the Olympic Games.

On the extreme end of the endurance spectrum are the half and full Ironman distances.

Kids of Steel

The Kids of Steel program is a great way to introduce kids to triathlon. Doing 3 different sports helps balance their athletic development and muscles as kids grow. Participation in sport helps build confidence and promotes physical fitness in youth.

Parents can support children under 5 in the pool, in transition and on the course.

Parents can help in transition for kids aged 6-9.

Floatation aids (eg life jackets and flutter boards) are encouraged if needed

Please keep in mind these are TENTATIVE route maps for illustrative purposes. Final routes will depend on approval from the Town of Peace River, Alberta Transportation and Triathlon Alberta's approval and may change up to the day of competition

Sprint (16+) / Try-a-Tri (12+) Swim

25m pool

We will have volunteer lap counters

Sprint 750m (30 lengths)

Try-a-Tri 300m (10 lengths)

Kids Swim

Floatation aids recommended if needed!

U5 - 17m - swim sideways so that an adult can walk alongside them either in the water or on the deck
U7 - 25m enter deep end, exit shallow end swimming near the wall.

Older kids will enter / exit lanes from shallow end

U9 100m
U11 200m

Sprint (16+) / Try-a-Tri (12+) Bike

Sprint 20km (2 laps)

Try-A-Tri 10 km (1 lap)

Kids Bike

Biking on the river dike separate from traffic. Parents can run alongside U5 if desired. Parents can help in transition for U5 and U7 if desired.

It doesn't matter if you are a seasoned expert or if you have never seen a triathlon - We are beginner and family friendly. If you are at all curious, just sign up! If you are a seasoned expert, we would love to have you!

There will be early bird pricing available until June 2026. T-shirt cutoff will be 2-3 weeks before race day. Registration will close after package pickup the day before the event. There will be no race-day registration this year.

Cost

Race entry fees are as follows:

Sprint Relay $150.00 (early bird $135.00 before June 25, 2026)

Sprint $90.00 (early bird $70.00 before June 25, 2026)

TRY-A-TRI $80.00 ( early bird $60.00 before June 25, 2026)

KOS - KIDS of STEEL all events $30.00 (early bird $20.00)The first 25 entries will have a discount code to bring the amount to Zero!
- There will still be a $10 Triathlon AB fee

We are looking for race day volunteers for all roles. This is a great way to give back to the community, get to know our neighbours and encourage healthy active living in youth.

Sponsorship

We are looking for sponsors to contribute financially or with goods / services to support this community event. We are a non profit group and are trying to keep registration costs as low as possible.

We have a big goal - to allow kids to race for free. We want every child to have the opportunity to participate in physical activity and feel proud crossing the finish line. Finances shouldn't be a barrier.

We are also looking for 'in kind' donations. Examples from prior years include donations of food / water from grocery stores / restaurants, scaffolding companies helping build temporary bike racks, sound equipment for announcements, discounts for printed materials, etc. Anything helps.
